Everything You Need To Know About Gold Vermeil

We believe jewellery can be sentimental, worn daily & last for all life's special moments for years to come. This is why we source & work with only precious metals to offer the highest quality pieces of jewellery. We have been working with gold vermeil for many years now, & love that this composition offers our community accessibly priced jewellery that can be worn daily without tarnishing. |
How do you pronounce vermeil? Gold vermeil is pronounced like ver-may. |
What is gold vermeil? Not to be confused with gold plating. The composition of gold vermeil includes a base metal of 925 sterling silver, with a thick layer of solid gold electroplated over sterling silver. The karat of the solid gold must be between 10-24k, & the gold thickness must be no lower than 2.5 microns. This offers a very thick layer of solid gold that will not 'rub off'. We choose to work with 14k solid gold, as it offers a beautiful rose, light-coloured gold, rather than a brassy, yellow gold you may see reflected in higher karat pieces of jewellery. Did you know: our signature soft toned yellow gold took us over 12 months to perfect! |

Can I wear gold vermeil everyday? Yes, you certainly can! Our jewellery is crafted with the highest quality precious metals so you are able to enjoy your pieces everyday. |
Is it real/solid gold? Gold vermeil is crafted with 14k (real/solid) gold with a thickness of 2.5 microns on a base of 925 Sterling Silver. |
How do I clean gold vermeil? We recommend using a gentle polishing cloth on your gold vermeil pieces, ensuring it is clean and dry. Simply rub your piece in one direction, wiping away any dirt. |
Is gold vermeil hypoallergenic? Yes! As gold vermeil is made up of only precious metals it is hypoallergenic & should not react with your skin. |
Will gold vermeil tarnish? We love our jewellery to tell a story, & gather imperfections with age. Though our pieces will not tarnish, overtime your pieces may oxidise slightly with air pollutants, beauty products or water. |
Is gold vermeil better than plated jewellery? Gold plated jewellery usually includes a base metal of brass or copper, which is a cheap metal to purchase & can react with your skin. Plated jewellery also has a very thin layer of gold plated over it, causing it to degrade & wear very quick. Therefore gold vermeil may have a high price point than plated jewellery, if you are looking for long-lasting piece, it is a better option. |
